Whatley Center announces 2012-2013 season

† † The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College recently announced the lineup for the 2012-2013 season. Individual ticket sales begin Monday, Aug. 20. Season ticket packages are also available.


† † "We have scheduled some amazing shows for our upcoming year of entertainment. I strongly recommend that people purchase tickets well in advance.

Summer Academic Achievements

Northeast Texas Community College is pleased to recognize students who excelled academically in Summer 2012. To be named to the Academic Honors list, a student must have taken 12 or more hours and earned at least a 3.5 grade point average. To be named to the Special Academic Merit List, a student must have taken between seven and 11 hours and earned a 4.0 grade point average.

NTCC graduates 148 students at summer commencement

Northeast Texas Community College held its summer 2012 commencement ceremony at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Aug. 10. During the ceremony, 82 students were awarded associate degrees and 66 earned certificates of competency in their chosen fields. Cory Nesbitt, a 2003 graduate of NTCC who is now a mechanical engineer for NASA, gave the commencement address. Nesbitt is a native of Mount Pleasant and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. Submissions requested for Northeast Texas Poetry Contest


† † Submissions are now being accepted for the fifth annual Northeast Texas Poetry Contest. Poems about our region of Northeast Texas are due to Dr. Andrew Yox, Northeast Texas Community College Professor and Honors Director,†by Friday, August 24 at noon. Poems should be e-mailed to ayox@ntcc.edu.


† † The contest includes both a student and adult category and cash awards will be given.

Pleasant Sams give $500 NTCC scholarship

The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently received a $500 scholarship from the Pleasant Sams, the Mount Pleasant Chapter of the Good Sams Club of America. This year's gift will benefit a student studying in the Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology program at NTCC. NTCC offers Sustainable Agriculture classes this fall

† † The Northeast Texas Community College department of Agriculture recently announced that it will offer two sustainable agriculture courses during the fall 2012 semester. Courses begin on August 27 and there is still time to enroll.


† † Small Farm Business Planning will meet from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday nights. The three-hour course walks students through the process of developing a farm business plan. Students will have the opportunity to use the NTCC farm as a model and design it from the ground up.

First day of class changed to Aug. 27

Northeast Texas Community College announced Tuesday that the fall semester has been pushed back to begin on Monday, August 27. The schedule originally stated that classes begin on August 20.

The decision to move the date back one week was made in order to ensure consistency with the start dates of local school districts and other colleges.

The due date for fall payments has also been pushed back one week to August 17. Please make arrangements to take care of your accounts by this date to avoid being dropped from classes.

Nursing students lend a hand, gain experience in Guatemala
