NTCC receives $60,000 grant from Pioneer Foundation

Fred Markham, Executive Director of the Texas Pioneer Foundation, recently presented the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation with $60,000 to support the NTCC Work Scholarship Program. The gift came in two separate checks, one for $50,000 to be used as a matching gift for scholarships, and the other for $10,000 to be used as program support. Markham (left) is pictured with Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Executive Vice President for Advancement. This summer marked the fifth year of the program, which allowed 63 students to work on campus to earn their education.

Hannah Dickson and Rhylie Anderson named STAR Scholars

Northeast Texas Community College students Hannah Dickson and Rhylie Anderson received recognition as the top two Texas STAR Scholars at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Regional Honors Institute held at Dallas Baptist University July 27-29. They were two of 12 recipients from throughout the state of Texas. The scholarship recognizes students with outstanding academic ability, demonstrated leadership, and involvement within the community.

Honors Northeast seeks poems, images for annual contest

Honors Northeast, the honors program of Northeast Texas Community College, is accepting entries of poems and images for its annual Northeast Texas Poetry Contest. This is the first year that an image category has been added for original photography and artwork. All submissions should focus on Northeast Texas and enhance or enliven our sense of the surroundings, people, the culture, and/or the history of this area.

The contest is open to both students and members of the community and there is no cost to enter.

Whatley Center announces 2018-2019 show lineup

The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College recently announced its 2018-2019 entertainment lineup. Season tickets are on sale now and individual ticket sales begin Wednesday, Aug. 15. The Entertainment Series, which is included in all Friends of the Whatley season ticket packages, kicks off with the 3 Redneck Tenors on September 25. They are a “new breed” of tenors, combining musical comedy with classically-trained singers to create a truly entertaining experience. The 3 Redneck Tenors are sponsored by Ruby R. Neely.
