Larry Gatlin to perform at the Whatley April 5

In 2008, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers performed on the Northeast Texas Community College campus before a packed house at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. Gatlin will return for an encore with an intimate, solo acoustic performance on April 5 at 7:30 p.m.

This unplugged concert will feature Gatlin telling stories about his life through multimedia presentations and songs from his childhood.

Baseball sweeps Navarro



The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles (NTCC) baseball team dominated the Navarro College Bulldogs†by sweeping†during their three-game series this weekend.

Thursday?s game started off with Austin Griffin hitting a homerun early and followed by Casey Dickerman getting on and working his way around the bases to score in the third. The Bulldogs put up two runs in the fifth and the eighth before Connor Drake scored the what proved to be the winning run for the Eagles in the ninth.

Softball drops two games to Navarro

The Northeast Texas Community College Lady Eagles (NTCC) softball team dropped their doubleheader against Navarro College Wednesday.


† † † †Darby Davis scored the Lady Eagles lone run of the game when she was driven home by Breagan White in the third inning. Hailey Dixon took the loss for the Eagles with the final score ending up 13-1.


† † † †The Lady Eagles seemed to struggle at the plate all day. Wednesday?s second game ended up being a shut out. The Lady Eagles managed only three hits for the whole game.

Noah Griffin and Matthew Jordan receive Guistwhite Scholarships

Northeast Texas Community College was the only community college in the nation to have two students selected as†2014†Phi Theta Kappa Guistwhite Scholarship recipients. Noah Griffin and Matthew Jordan, both of Pittsburg, were among the 20 students who received the honor this year.

They will be recognized and invited to a special reception during Phi Theta Kappa?s Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida, April 24-26.

NTCC rodeo competes at A&M-Kingsville

The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) rodeo team competed in their second rodeo of the spring season at the Texas A&M-Kingsville rodeo at the Robstown Expo. Center in Kingsville, Texas. NTCC was represented by six students, with the men?s team scoring 295 points and placing fifth and the women?s team placing sixth with 80 points.

The header and heeler team of Shane McCall and Jordan Self took third in the team roping event earning 20.8 points.

Weekly softball update

The Northeast Texas Community College Lady Eagles (NTCC) softball team swept their doubleheader against Ouachita Baptist College on Monday. Game one ended with a 6-1 Eagle victory and Game two finished early with a 10-2 run rule victory.

Hailey Dixon led the Eagles, giving up one run in the opening ininng and allowing only five hits during the remainder of the first game of the afternoon.

Weekly baseball update

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles (NTCC) baseball team dropped their conference series against Panola College this past weekend.

Panola kicked off the first game in the series with a run in the top of the first which was answered in the bottom by Jason Jones. Panola scored again in the second and third before a passed ball put Austin Griffin and Connor Hall in position to even the score. Neither team was able to put any more runs on the board until the ninth when Panola added one to defeat the Eagles 4-3.

Second annual Edible Book Contest scheduled for April 1

The Northeast Texas Community College Learning Resource Center (LRC) and Culinary Arts School will host their second annual Edible Book Contest on Tuesday, April 1. This event challenges participants to depict a favorite book through edible art. The contest is open to the general public and all experience levels are welcome.

Contest entry forms are available online at www.ntcc.edu/ediblebooks. These should be returned to the LRC by Monday, March 31. While there is no cost to enter, late entries (day of) will be charged a fee of $2.

Where does your food come from?

If you're like many Americans, the answer is the grocery store. In fact, the grocery store is not where our food comes from, just from where it's distributed. Unfortunately, far too many people are unaware of the role of American agriculture has in their daily lives . . . and what it really takes to have food on their dinner table.

Just a few generations ago, most people were a part of, and had friends or relatives directly involved with, agriculture. Today, that is no longer the case.
