Automotive program holds Carroll Shelby Memorial Cruise

The Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program at Northeast Texas Community College honored the memory of its benefactor last weekend with the 2014 Shelby Memorial Cruise. It was a beautiful day for a cruise to celebrate a life well lived. Car and bike enthusiasts gathered at NTCC and then†cruised to Leesburg (Shelby's hometown) and the Leesburg Cemetery. Pastor Dominic Crescimanno (Brother Dom) had some inspirational words about Mr. Shelby and life. The group then†cruised the back roads where Mr. Shelby grew up.

TRMC Auxiliary gives allied health scholarships

The Titus Regional Medical Center (TRMC) Auxiliary recently donated $4,500, which will provide six $750 scholarships to benefit students at Northeast Texas Community College majoring in an allied health field. Texas Pioneer Foundation gives $200,000 to three-college consortium project

Representatives from Kilgore College, Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) and Texarkana College recently gathered on the NTCC campus in Mount Pleasant to receive a $200,000 grant from the Texas Pioneer Foundation. The three colleges were awarded the money to†support the†creation of a†consortium†to promote student†success and†college efficiency.

The consortium was organized as an innovative way to upgrade to a new student information system as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.

Webb chapter Northeast earns best-in-state honorary cords

The Northeast Texas Webb Chapter, part of the collegiate student auxiliary of the Texas State Historical Association, earned special gold-red-black cords for graduation this spring.† They were the only chapter in the state that won both a Caldwell Group Award, and a Chapter Award in the last two years.

Ashley Laureano earns J. Travis Jackson GED Scholarship

Ashley Laureano (center)†of Mount Pleasant, was recently†presented with the J. Travis Jackson†GED†Scholarship during the†2014†GED graduation ceremony hosted by the Northeast Texas Community College Adult Education Department.†This $500 award is given by the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club in memory of Jackson, who was a long time adult educator in Titus County.†Making the presentation is Malik Latif (left), President of the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club and Carolyn Pope, GED Instructor.

Poster Contest winners announced

John Updike once noted that anyone seriously interested in doing something better or right will be creative.† On the morning of May 2, while some students were studying for finals, 20 students†gathered†to compete in the Seventh Annual McGraw-Hill Poster Contest.†The event was held at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.

Their object was to convey to well-educated adult judges from our community something that the latter did not already know.† Each of the twenty students had an idea they had developed.

SGA honors outstanding student organizations

The Northeast Texas Community College Student Government Association (SGA) recently recognized two student organizations on campus. The Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Mu Chi chapter was awarded Outstanding Student Organization for the 2013-2014 school year. To be eligible for this award an organization must exhibit how it has contributed to the college, community, and the development of its members. Perryman gives $3,000 for scholarship reception

Richard Perryman, (pictured, left) recently presented a $3,000 check to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, Vice President for Advancement, Northeast Texas Community College.† The funds will be used to underwrite the NTCC Foundation Annual Scholarship Reception.† The reception is held on the NTCC campus each fall and allows scholarship recipients to meet the donors who made their award possible. In addition to helping NTCC with scholarships themselves, Richard and Margaret Perryman have been underwriting the Scholarship Reception for more than 10 years.

Lions Club of Pittsburg donates scholarship

The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently received an $1,800 gift from the Lions Club of Pittsburg. The donation will provide three $600 scholarships to NTCC students from Camp County.
