Texas A&M University-Texarkana at NTCC's Student Advisory Council and Education Club and Communities In Schools is hosting an annual Christmas Drive Nov. 11 through Dec. 5. They are seeking new items for children and teens in the community, including toys, clothes, undergarments, electronics, board games, jackets, makeup and hair accessories, socks, shoes, hoodies, etc.
NTCC’s Gladys Winkle Scholar, Courtney Baldwin has set a new college first. Baldwin placed first in the Arts and Humanities division among student presenters at the recent meeting of the National Collegiate Honors Council in New Orleans, 6-10 November 2019.
The Northeast Texas Community College Rodeo team closed out the fall schedule with a trip to Conroe, Texas for the Sam Houston State University Rodeo this past weekend. Presley Spoonemore led the way for the Eagles with an excellent run in the Breakaway roping bringing home a second place finish.
The Northeast Texas Community College Continuing Education department held its fourth annual Northeast Texas Childcare Providers Conference on the NTCC campus on Saturday, Nov. 9. They hosted 110 attendees.
Theatre Northeast, the Northeast Texas Community College student theatre group, will present a play for young audiences December 4-7 at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. Several weekday matinees will be performed for school children and then there will be two performances for the general public on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2:05 p.m.
The Office of Student Activities, Student Government Association, Social Work Club and The Wesley Fellowship Center are partnering together to host a campus-wide Advent Calendarfood drive to support The Eagle Pantry. On November 1, NTCC’s Jalyn English, Sam Griffin, Rebekah Reed and Katelyn Cox presented the newest trailer of an honors film, “Starlight: Adina De Zavala, and the Making of a Patriotic Supersite,” at the meeting of the Walter Prescott Webb Society. The Webb is a collegiate auxiliary of the Texas State Historical Association, and has been operating since 1974. Lisa Berg, the new Austin-based Education Director of the TSHA, coordinates the activities of the association.
One Night in Memphis, the official and number one tribute to Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash will be appearing live at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College on Monday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Quilts by local quilters hang in the Whatley Center foyer in what is now an annual tradition for the NTCC art department. For the fourth consecutive year, quilters bring their treasured art to share with the community. The exhibit runs from Wednesday, Nov. 6 through Monday, Nov. 25. A reception is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 12:30 p.m. in the Whatley Center foyer, and refreshments will be served.
