San Jacinto beats Galveston to remain undefeated

The NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament continued with its pattern of long, extra-inning ballgames on Wednesday night as San Jacinto College beat Galveston College 6-5 in 16 innings.

San Jacinto remains the only undefeated team in the tournament. Galveston will play Navarro at 1 p.m. on Thursday (game 13) in order to try to earn the chance for a re-match with San Jacinto at 5 p.

San Jacinto started off strong, putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first.

Eagles drop tourney opener to Whitecaps

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles fell 7-6 to the Galveston College Whitecaps Sunday night in game four of the Region XIV Tournament.

The game was late getting started and continued on into Monday morning after game three went 13 innings. Despite being the higher seed, NTCC was unable to combat Galveston?s strong hitting.

?We didn?t get big hits when we needed to and Galveston did.

Blinn comes from behind to beat Texarkana 11-6

The Blinn Buccaneers earned a place in the winner?s bracket Sunday afternoon as they came from behind to beat Texarkana College 11-6 in game two of the NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament at Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant.

Texarkana jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Texarkana added another two in the third and one more in the top of the fourth.

Navarro defeats Alvin 5-0 in game one

After being delayed for a day due to rain, the NJCAA Region XIV Baseball Tournament kicked off on Sunday morning at Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant. Navarro College defeated Alvin Community College 5-0 in the first match up.

Navarro?s Chad Young pitched nine innings for the win, allowing no runs on four hits and an impressive 13 strikeouts.

Navarro?s offense was led by Brode Boyd?s hitting. He went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run.

NTCC graduates largest class in college history



Northeast Texas Community College held its spring 2012 commencement at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, May 11. This marked the largest graduating class in the history of NTCC. During the ceremony, 188 students were awarded associate degrees and 69 earned certificates of competency in their chosen fields. Dr. Melissa Weinbrenner, NTCC Associate Professor of History and Division Director for Social Studies, delivered the commencement address.

Eleven GED grads inducted into honor society

The Titus County Literacy Advisory Council recently honored 11 deserving†General Equivalency Diploma (GED) students from Northeast Texas Community†College by inducting them into the National Adult Education Honor Society†(NAEHS).

NTCC raises $2,651 for Relay for Life

Last weekend, Northeast Texas Community College participated in the 2012 Relay for Life at the Mount Pleasant Junior High School track. Despite getting a late start, the NTCC family was able to raise $2,651.31 for the cause. "Estelene Eagle" (AKA Professor Doug Hoppock) won the Mr. Relay competition by a landslide by raising a whopping $1,277.31 towards the total.
