Eagles Soccer kicks off season with men's win, women's loss

A late-game goal was the difference for the Eagles Tuesday as Northeast Texas Community College opened the fall 2012 season with a road win at Ranger College.

Tied 1-1 in the final minutes of the contest, the Eagles? Miguel Almazan scored from short distance with less that five minutes to play in what would turn out to be a 2-1 NTCC victory.

?We played a strong game with high pressure and good intensity and it was enough to get us a win,? Eagles? assistant coach Desmond Barron said.

College board approves budget, tax rate



The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees approved a tax rate and budget for the 2012-2013 year at its meeting Tuesday evening.† The tax rate remains at its cap of 10 cents per $100 valuation and is projected to generate $3.182 million in revenue.

The budget was set at $17.922 million, and included reductions in planned deferred maintenance and in the growth of reserve funding.

Eagles baseball to host tourney Sept. 7-8

The Northeast Texas Community College baseball team will kick off the 2012 fall season Sept. 7 as the Eagles host their annual fall tournament at Bob Baker Field.

Play gets underway at 1 p.m. as the Eagles take on conference foe Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers and continues at 4 p.m. as a Cavaliers face Weatherford. Day one of the two-day tournament ends with the nightcap game at 7 p.m. as the Eagles take on Weatherford.

There are four games scheduled for Saturday, Sept.

NTCC Honors students begin work on historical film

† † The Northeast Texas Community College Honors students got a head start on their semester last week as they traveled to Jefferson to film their second feature-length movie.


† † The students are currently in the process of producing a 38-scene film on the life of Morris Sheppard, a native of Morris County.†Sheppard authored the 18th amendment and is known as the father of prohibition.


† † The year 2013 will mark the 100th anniversary of Sheppard's drive for the prohibition amendment in Congress.

NTCC to offer free GED classes in Mount Pleasant

The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College will offer free General Education Development (GED) classes in Mount Pleasant.†Both day and evening classes are available.†Students interested in attending classes must enroll in a 12-hour orientation. Orientation and classes will be held at the Adult Education Center located in Room 126 of the Mount Pleasant ISD Administration Building at 105 N. Riddle. †The day orientation will be September 4-6 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and classes begin September 10.
