The Northeast Texas Community College baseball team will kick off the 2012 fall season Sept. 7 as the Eagles host their annual fall tournament at Bob Baker Field.
Play gets underway at 1 p.m. as the Eagles take on conference foe Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers and continues at 4 p.m. as a Cavaliers face Weatherford. Day one of the two-day tournament ends with the nightcap game at 7 p.m. as the Eagles take on Weatherford.
There are four games scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8 as Weatherford and Paris Junior College get the day started at 10 a.m. Weatherford will face NTCC at 1 p.m., Grayson College will play Paris Junior College at 4 p.m. and the tournament comes to an end as the Eagles face off against Grayson College at 7 p.m.
?This is a great opportunity for us to see what kind of players we have coming in this season and is also a great chance for the fans to catch of glimpse of what they have to look forward to this season,? Eagles Head Coach Josh Stewart said.
The Eagles finished up the Spring 2012 season with a record of 33-17, including a 26-10 mark in the tough Texas Eastern Athletic Conference.
The 2012 Eagles squad boasted five All-Conference picks, including pitchers Jordan Marah and Tanner Allgood as well as catcher Matt Durst and outfielders Wesley Hoover and Zach Costa.
Allgood, Durst and Hoover are among the 15 players returning to the Eagles from last season?s roster as the team looks to break in nearly 30 new faces this fall.
?It?s a process that all junior college teams have to go through every fall,? Stewart said. ?You may think that you know what kind of players you have coming in, but you never really know what kind of team you are going to have until the players hit the field.?
Eight players from the Eagles? spring 2012 team have moved on to play with four-year schools, including Shane Segovia (Missouri), Mitchell Davis (Florida International), Dauris Holguin and Luis Sanchez (Faulkner), Jordan Marah (Northwood), Jonathan Luthe (Arkansas State), Telvin Darden (Southern Arkansas) and Costa (Northwestern State).
After the tournament, the Eagles? season continues Sept. 14 with a road game at Bossier Parish.
