NTCC holds retirement reception for Jerry Massey

Northeast Texas Community College celebrated the service of Jerry Massey, a long-time member of the NTCC board of Trustees, with a retirement reception on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Massey (left), of Pittsburg, recently retired from the board after 18 years of service. He and his wife, Susan, are retiring to the Houston area in order to be closer to family. Other members of the college board, faculty, staff, and community gathered in the Whatley Center foyer to honor Massey. Travel to George W Bush Library with NTCC

Want to get away for a day? Consider joining the Northeast Texas Community College Continuing Education Department on a travel excursion to the George W. Bush Library in Dallas. The trip is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24 and will include round-trip travel to Dallas by motor coach and the cost of admission.


The coach will leave from the NTCC Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg at 7 a.m. and return at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the trip is $60 for adults, $55 for seniors (62 and older), and $55 for high school and college students.

Stephen Milburn wins STAR Scholarship

Stephen Milburn, a Northeast Texas Community College student from Mount Pleasant, was one of six recipients of the Dr. Mary Hood STAR Scholarship.† The scholarship honors returning community college students in the Texas region who show outstanding promise as leaders and as scholars.† The recipients were announced at the recent Texas Honors Institute held at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX and recognized onstage.

Eagles Athletics helps Habitat for Humanity

On August 24 100+ Northeast Texas Community College Eagles swooped down and landed on six Habitat for Humanity lots on 9th street in Mount Pleasant. Directed by coaches Josh Stewart, Shane Wedd, Jessica Keith, Donovan Dowling, and Kayla King; as well as Habitat volunteers Tim Hart and Ronny White, the students attacked neglected homesites. Members of the softball, baseball and soccer teams (including coaches) spent the day clearing the lots of rotting trees, briars, and other assorted trash. The team was provided with a barbecue lunch by Ronny Farmer.

Teams needed for co-ed softball tournament!


The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Softball team will host the first†annual†Coed Slowpitch Tournament on†September 14, 2013 at the Heritage Park fields in Mount Pleasant. †The entry fee is $150 per team in this 7/3 co-ed tournament. Games will be timed at 55 minutes with the championship game lasting a full seven innings.

Ron Clinton to perform solo piano recital at NTCC



Dr. Ron Clinton, Northeast Texas Community College Executive Vice President for Instruction, will perform a solo piano recital on Sunday, Sept. 15 at†2:30 p.m. at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.†Tickets to the concerts are $10 for adults and $5 for children and NTCC students with a current ID. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for NTCC students.

The concert will feature selections by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin,†Gershwin,†and Liszt.

"Dr. Clinton is a phenomenal pianist and we are thrilled to host his concert at the Whatley Center.

Fredia Thomas completes Leadership Excellence Academy



Fredia Thomas, Northeast Texas Community College†TEAMS and Adult Education Student Retention Specialist, recently completed the Leadership Excellence Academy (LEA) and is now a Certified Manager in Program Improvement (CMPI). This certification is the first of its kind in the adult education and literacy field and signifies†national†membership in an elite group of professional managers.




Thomas, of Daingerfield, began working in Adult Education at NTCC as a student†worker.†She has been with the department for 23 years.

Free GED, ESL classes offered

The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) will offer free General Education Development (GED) classes and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at various locations throughout the area this fall. All students must in enroll in an orientation session before beginning classes.†The GED exam is changing in January 2014. At that time, all students seeking a GED will be required to complete the entire new test.
