The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met for its regular October meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 31st. All six members were present. The seventh seat on the board is currently vacant, as Dr. Dan McCauley retired from his position in September. McCauley was on the NTCC Board since 1988 and was the longest-serving trustee in the college’s history.
The Northeast Texas Community College Rodeo Team has been busy the last week with Rodeos on back to back weekends. NTCC hosted the third Rodeo of season October 20-21 at the Mount Pleasant Rodeo Association Arena and then went to McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana October 26-28.
Neida Janet Perez, the James and Elizabeth Whatley Scholar of NTCC, has just won the student election of the Great Plains Honors Council (GPHC). In a general email to the institutional members, GPHC secretary Ebonie Hill of Oklahoma State communicated the results last Monday. Perez defeated an upperclassman from Midwestern State University for the top honor.
Northeast Texas Community College is mourning the loss of one of its own this week as longtime employee Pat Tallant passed away suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 29th 2023. The NTCC Foundation has established a scholarship fund in her memory. The Northeast Texas Community College Continuing Education department recently offered conversational Spanish classes that were held at Super Bueno in Mount Pleasant. The unique setting made for an immersive experience and allowed students to participate in Hispanic culture.
Twelve members and advisors of Alpha Mu Chi chapter attended the 2023 Texas Leadership Conference on October 13th through 15th. Attendees included advisors Fatima Fuentes and Melody Mott, and members Vanessajane Bayna, Alison Majors, Ruby Ferretiz, Michelle Calderon, Victoria Matiz, and Neida Perez, Martin Ferretiz, Garrett Phillips, and Jose Lopez.
Texas A&M University Texarkana at NTCC will host Eagle Express events on November 2nd and 8th at the TAMUT office (UHS 113) on the NTCC campus. The transfer event will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and all prospective students are invited to attend.
On 20 October, six scholars of Honors Northeast presented work at the annual fall meeting of the Walter Prescott Webb Society. The “Webb” is the collegiate auxiliary of the Texas State Historical Association. Odalys Adame, Vanessajane Bayna, Michelle Calderon, Skylar Hodson, Luke McCraw, and Morgan Thrapp each presented segments of the group’s film production story, and anchored the group discussion with the premiere showing of the film’s trailer.
