students with ornaments

The holiday spirit was strong in NTCC's dorms this week after residents took the time to make Christmas ornaments and decorate the tree in the West Housing lobby. Students gathered to de-stress before finals and get creative as they painted and assembled their very own Christmas creations.

For NTCC Honors Students, there are three major ways in which leadership not only benefits the recipient, but the whole honors experience.  Students can lead in classroom erudition, scholarship, and in collective activities that provide services for the community and/or accolades for the larger group.

registration express

What started as an out-of-the-box idea by NTCC Navigator, JaQuacy Minter, ended with the NTCC Student Services building being transformed into a festive "Registration Express" train station, blending the magic of The Polar Express with the importance of spring registration. Throughout December, the Student Services team treated students to free hot chocolate, coffee and popcorn, creating a warm and inviting space while they registered for classes.

Thursday, November 30th, second year MLT students braved the rain to tour the laboratory at Titus Regional Medical Center.  They were able to see first hand how the skills they’ve been learning throughout their time at NTCC will be used.  Titus Regional has two Sysmex hematology analyzers for fast and accurate complete blood counts.

For over ten years in the “BioTex” seminar at NTCC, honors students have experienced a November “email shootout.” This is something like a cross between an ongoing basketball game with scores changing in real time, and a fast-paced, scholarly-poetic thinkathon.  The course challenges students to conceptualize the elements of their Texas history research essays, to utilize crossover “analogs, (terms)” particularly from biology and other scientific fields, and to provide terse definitions of newly minted concepts.
