NTCC to hold GED commencement

The Northeast Texas Community College Adult Education program will hold its annual General Education Development (GED) commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. All students who have completed the NTCC GED program during the past year will be honored. Friends and family of graduates are invited to attend. A brief reception will be held in the Whatley Center foyer after the commencement ceremony.

NTCC soccer player selected for Premier Development League this summer

Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Soccer player Rimario Gordon will compete in the Premier Development League (PDL) this summer. The PDL is run by the United Soccer League (USL) and is the highest level of amateur soccer in the United States. This will be the first time that a NTCC Student has been invited to compete in a professional development league.

The PDL is a highly competitive program with international reach which is designed to prepare students for professional soccer careers. The league has 64 teams competing in ten divisions across four conferences.

Two students win prestigious Jack Kent Cooke scholarship

Northeast Texas Community College students Matthew Jordan of Pittsburg and†Stephen Milburn of Mount Pleasant were recently awarded Jack Kent Cooke†Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships. This prestigious award†covers up to $30,000 annually at the university of the student's choice†for up to three years. Only 85 students were selected from more than 3,500†applicants for this national honor.

AEP SWEPCO gives NTCC work scholarship

Jennifer Harland, Manager of External Affairs for AEP SWEPCO in Mount Pleasant (right) recently presented a check for $1,000 to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, Northeast Texas Community College Vice President for Advancement. The contribution will be used to provide a scholarship for NTCC's new work scholarship pilot program. For more information about scholarships, contact McCullough at 903-434-8115.

Eagles Rodeo hosts annual Kid Rodeo

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Rodeo team hosted its annual Kids' Rodeo on April 16 at the Priefert Rodeo Complex. Each spring, elementary schools from around the area bus their Kindergarten through second grade students to†NTCC†to watch an exhibition rodeo performed by the†NTCC†Rodeo Team. Thousands of local school children have attended these events throughout the years. The team also hosted a special Handicapped Rodeo in the morning, which allowed special needs kids a chance to interact with the rodeo team and participate in fun events.

NTCC offers New Mathways Courses for Fall 2014

Does math scare you? If so, you?re not alone! Many students need extra help getting ready for college-level math classes and a new statewide initiative could help you get there sooner.

The New Mathways Project (NMP) is a statewide effort to reduce the number of developmental math courses leading to successful achievement of the college-level math credit required for a college degree.† NTCC has joined the NMP along with other Texas community colleges to begin a pilot program in fall 2014.

?Traditionally, developmental math classes have focused on algebra almost exclusively.

NTCC hosts Engineering Roundtable

On Friday, April 11, the Northeast Texas Community College Department of Physics and Engineering hosted the first Annual Engineering Roundtable and Luncheon in the Student Union Building on campus.† The event was sponsored by the NTCC Foundation to provide opportunities for current engineering majors and prospective engineering students from area high schools to learn more about the field of engineering.
