Each year, the international honor society of community colleges, Phi Theta Kappa, selects leading community college students across the state to be part of an All-Texas Academic Team. This group, in turn, receives special consideration for possible entry into an All USA Academic Team. This year, Aaliyah Avellaneda, and John Rodriguez, two Presidential Scholars, and members of NTCC’s award-winning chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Mu Chi, received this honor from NTCC.
The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently received a $5,000 gift from Gateway Bronco. The funds will be used to provide scholarships for students in NTCC’s Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program. The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College will host a concert by Forever Motown on Friday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. This is a full stage production of your favorite hit songs from all the Motown Legends.
Alpha Mu Chi, a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at Northeast Texas Community College, recently completed a yearlong Honors in Action project. “Finally Free: Folklore Becomes Legacy” is half-hour documentary featuring the voices, stories, and legacies of our African American community members. Northeast Texas Community College Baseball kicked off the 2022 spring season with a double header against Grayson College on the NTCC Campus on Monday. NTCC and Grayson would split the series with the Eagles taking game one 5-3 and Grayson winning the second game 9-2.
In game one, Grayson would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning after a lead off single, followed up by another single, double and one last single to plate two runs and take a lead.

Northeast Texas Community College Softball had their season home opener on Monday against North Central Texas College. NCTC would take down the Eagles in both games on a windy day at Eagle Field at NTCC.
Jessie Parchman, a Presidential Honors Scholar at NTCC and a Chapel Hill high school senior, became the first person from this region to attend the Public Leadership Education Network Conference (PLEN). Jessie also serves as a chapter officer for NTCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Alpha Mu Chi.

The funds will be used to support NTCC’s Carroll Shelby Automotive Program. The Shelby Foundation has been a major supporter of the program since Carroll Shelby himself took an interest in providing opportunities for students in Northeast Texas. Students of Honors Northeast took yet another festive day trip to the Dallas metro last Friday, 28 January. With the help of donors to Honors Northeast, especially Drs. Jim and Paula Archer, the group enjoyed many special experiences.
