Jalyn English

Because of his combination of academic excellence, leadership, and public service, Jalyn English has become the premiere winner of the James and Elizabeth Whatley Honors Endowed Scholarship.  This $2,500 scholarship, to be applied to the coming academic year at NTCC, and available for distinguished NTCC Presidential Scholar sophomores in the years to come, is the result of a $50,000 gift given to Honors Northeast, the college’s honors program, when it started in 2007.

cast and crew

Thanks to premier film patrons--Jerald and Mary Lou Mowery of Scroggins, a number of local citizens who were willing to be interviewed, administrative support at the college, and some influential encouragement of local friends, the honors program of NTCC finished five days of filming the life of Bo Pilgrim, 14 August. Pilgrimage: A Story of Northeast Texas hopefully will become the ninth feature-length production of Honors Northeast and the NTCC Webb Society, all on historical themes pertaining to Texas.

formats

Northeast Texas Community College announced some important changes to the fall schedule this week. In order to allow for increased social distancing and to enhance student safety, NTCC is now offering five different course formats for students to choose from. They are as follows:

graduation

While NTCC's spring and summer graduation ceremonies had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns, that doesn't mean we aren't EXCEPTIONALLY proud of our graduates! To show that pride, we have put together Virtual Graduations for both our May and August classes.

Haley

Haley Bucsanyi, a student at Northeast Texas Community College in Texas, has been named the 2020 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

Bucsanyi is a first-generation college student majoring in Biological Science. She volunteers with a local nonprofit cat rescue dedicated to helping the feline population. She also volunteers with the Daingerfield State Park Little Pines Friends. Last fall, she was selected to serve as a Texas State Parks and Wildlife Ambassador, and her career goal is to become a Texas State Park Biologist so that she can work to manage and conserve the native park ecosystems.

whitely center

Northeast Texas Community College has made the decision to close the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts through the end of December.

"The health and safety of our patrons and community is our top priority and we feel that this is the right thing to do given the current circumstances with COVID-19," Carolyn Franks, Whatley Director, said. "The cancellation of our eagerly-anticipated events is very disappointing to both us and our patrons. We will look at putting together a reduced season in January and make a decision on spring shows later this fall."
