NTCC names library for Charlie and Helen Hampton

Northeast Texas Community College recently announced that its library has been renamed the Charlie and Helen Hampton Learning Resource Center (LRC). The NTCC Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the new building name in their April board meeting. This is the first name change in a recently-launched fundraising/naming campaign by the NTCC Foundation. The naming campaign comes as the campus interior undergoes a major transformation.

Helen Hampton and her late husband, Charlie, of Naples, are longtime friends of NTCC.

International Sulphur gives five transfer scholarships

International Sulphur, Inc. recently made a scholarship donation to the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation.†Marci Henderson (left), is pictured presenting a $5,000 check to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Vice President for Advancement. The funds will be used to award five $1,000 scholarships to students who graduated from NTCC in the spring of 2016†and†will be†transferring to four-year†universities†this fall.

NTCC awards Spencer prizes for essays in history

Kassandra V. Martinez, a Northeast Texas Community College Honors Scholar, and Tanika Santos, a member of the NTCC Women?s Soccer Team have become the first winners of the Bonnie Spencer Awards for superior essays in history.† Spencer, an alumna of Northeast, and the leader of NTCC?s first history club in 2003, established the fund that awards the prizes. She also read the submissions, and helped select the winners.

NTCC to offer iCan Kids Discovery College this summer

The Northeast Texas Community College Continuing Education Department is planning a variety of fun courses for kids ages 8-15 this summer. Registration is now open for the iCan Kids Discovery College, which will be held in two sessions.

Cassia Rose wins NTCC McGraw-Hill Poster Contest

Northeast Texas Community College held its ninth†annual McGraw-Hill Poster contest Friday, April 29. The event was held in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts and featured research by 20 of NTCC?s most decorated scholars. The contest has become an annual test of creative research in Northeast Texas, funded in part by the McGraw-Hill Corporation, and judged by friends of the college, and Honors Northeast.

? Continue to use caution in the area between BT and IT

? A walking path is now cleared between IT and the Whatley Center

? A temporary sidewalk is being placed behind the Admin building in anticipation of upcoming renovations


? Work will be moving inside several buildings very soon

NTCC receives gift to restore John Biggers mural

The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently received a $10,000 gift from the East Texas Communities Foundation and the Burt and Nancy Marans Estate. Dr. Brad Johnson, NTCC President (right) and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Vice President for Advancement, are pictured receiving the donation. †The funds will be used to begin the restoration process for the Dr. John Biggers mural that will be relocated from Pewitt Elementary School to the NTCC Charlie and Helen Hampton Learning Resource Center.

Dr. Tawny Nix gives scholarships

Dr. Tawny Nix, Director of the Northeast Texas Community College Medical Assistant program, recently contributed $2,000 to the NTCC Foundation. The funds will provide scholarships to students majoring in Medical Assistant, Medical Coding or Health Informatics.
