NTCC to host annual student art show

The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will present its Annual Student Art Show April 12-27 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. A reception will be held Wednesday, April 19 at 2 p.m. in the Whatley Foyer. The show will feature student work in a variety of media including painting, drawing, photography, ceramics and more. The gallery is open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Please call 903-434-8181 to ensure that the gallery is open before you come to visit. Army Jazz Ambassadors to perform free concert at Whatley Center

The internationally acclaimed Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, DC will continue its long tradition of presenting free public performances when it appears at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m.

The Jazz Ambassadors is the official touring big band of the United States Army.

Shaw named Guistwhite Scholar

Emma Shaw, a sophomore at Northeast Texas Community College from Omaha, has been selected as one of only 15 students nationwide to be named a 2017 Phi Theta Kappa Guistwhite Scholar. The honor includes a $5,000 scholarship to be used toward baccalaureate studies and a commemorative medallion. Shaw will be honored with the other recipients on the main stage at Phi Theta Kappa?s national convention in Nashville this April

Guistwhite Scholars are chosen based on academic achievement, leadership accomplishments and engagement in Phi Theta Kappa Programs.

Mendoza named a 2017 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar

Ryan-Rose Mendoza, a sophomore at Northeast Texas Community College, has been named a 2017 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, and providing nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each Silver Scholar receives a $1,250 scholarship and a special medallion.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society administers the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Program.

Whatley Center to host Mount Vernon Music April 10

The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College will host a concert by Mount Vernon Music Monday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Whatley foyer.† The string quintet performance will feature Mark Miller and Yuko Mansell on violin, Ute Miller and Sarah Kienle on viola and Zachary Mansell on cello.

Program selections will include Quintet in C major K. 515 by Mozart and Quintet in G major op.

Art Department hosts annual Mt. Pleasant Art Society show

The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will host the Mount Pleasant Art Society Annual Membership Show March 25 through April 7 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The competitive show features artwork from a variety of local artists. A reception will be held Saturday, March 25 from 2:00-3:30 p.m., where the winners will be announced.
