Honors Northeast wraps filming on new Mary Kay movie

Shaky cams, missed script deadlines, public objections to filming, stepped-on cable prongs, a lack of additional cash infusions, quarreling, inadequate time frames, actor resignations, poor sound?all these and more tend to rattle and decimate most aspiring film productions in the United States.† However, the scholars of Honors Northeast have returned from a Texas film site, knowing that their late hours, research, and experience acting again have come together, to produce the hours of footage needed for another original film.† This year?s subject is another Texas legend?the story of Mary Kay,

Cassidy Watkins named Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar

For the second year in a row, Texas Heritage National Bank has sponsored a full scholarship for a Northeast Texas Community College Presidential Scholar. Cassidy Watkins, of Daingerfield, has been named the 2017-2018 Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar.

The scholarship covers tuition, fees and books for Watkins? sophomore year at NTCC.

?This kind of privately funded, full academic scholarship gives dynamic students like Watkins time advantages, and a route to leverage greater awards,? Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director, said.

Chesney Davis named Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar

The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society has selected Chesney Davis to receive a $1,500 scholarship as the 2017 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar.

A mechanical engineering major, Davis is a Priefert Manufacturing engineering intern, NTCC Presidential Honors Scholar and the Texas Regional Vice President for Phi Theta Kappa.† In addition, Davis serves as a ?Supplemental Instruction?

Cypress Bank donates laptop computer to Honors Northeast student

For the 10th straight year,†Cypress Bank†has presented a MacBook computer for the use of Northeast Texas Community College honors students.†This year?s recipient is Jordan Whelchel.† He is a recent graduate of Daingerfield High School who already has become active in Honors film and Phi Theta Kappa activities at NTCC.†Whelchel plans to major in physics.

Cypress, the oldest Camp-County-based bank, has four locations in Mount Pleasant, Pittsburg, Lone Star and Commerce.

Special guests planned for Northeast Texas Poetry Reading

The Tenth Annual Northeast Texas Poetry Reading at Northeast Texas Community College will include special remarks by two local educators. †Dr. Elaine Beason, a retired professor of Texas A&M University-Texarkana, and Kristin Ellermann, a young educator who taught with the Peace Corps in the Republic of Georgia, and also as a Disney instructor in Shanghai, China, will supplement the reading of winning poems with observations about local life.

Chuck Barkow makes memorial gift to Whatley Campaign

Chuck Barkow recently gave $1,000 to sponsor two chairs in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College. The seats are dedicated in memory of Jill Barkow and Holly Hardman.
