The foundation of the department has always been to provide appropriate, authentic laboratory experiences for all of its students to enhance the learning process. In 1985, the program occupied two instructional laboratories. The program currently operates with five instructional laboratories: two anatomy and physiology labs, two general biology labs, and a laboratory for microbiology. In all laboratory activities in every course within the program, technology has had a significant impact on student learning. Students become proficient in manipulating technology and other scientific tools and instrumentation including microscopes, computer data collection devices and sensors, spectrophotometers, autoclaves, incubators, PCR thermo-cycler, and electrophoresis. A strong faculty, well-equipped laboratories, and the use of modern technology have been essential to the success of the program.
