Sondra Fowler recently gave a $2,000 gift to the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation. She is pictured (left) presenting the check to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Vice President for Advancement. Because she is a retired employee of ConocoPhillips, she qualifies for a matching gift program that is offered by the corporation.†The gift will be matched with an additional $2,000, bringing her total scholarship contribution to $4,000. The donation will provide scholarships for the Alfred and Ethel Fowler Morris County Scholarship fund.
ALAS of Texas gives $7,500 for NTCC scholarships
Amigos Latinos Al Servicios (ALAS) of Texas recently presented a check for $7,500 to the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation. The funds were raised at the second annual Cinco de Mayo on the Square event that was held in Mount Pleasant this year and will provide scholarships for local students attending NTCC. ALAS is a volunteer group of Latino professionals in Titus County with a vision to empower, promote, advocate and help identify the needs of the growing Hispanic community in Mount Pleasant and surrounding areas. Update: Three NTCC students named Jack Kent Cooke semifinalists
Northeast Texas Community College learned last week that three sophomore students have been named semifinalists for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Ryan-Rose Mendoza, Melody Mott and Bailey Hall, all of Mount Pleasant, are among those who will move into the final stages of the highly-competitive competition.
Their applications were among more than 2,800 submitted by students across the nation. Only 20% of applicants made it to semifinalist status.

Sondra Fowler sworn in as new NTCC Board member
Sondra Fowler (right) was sworn in by Gov. Bill Ratliff at the December meeting of the Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees. Fowler, of Daingerfield, was appointed to replace John Bryan, who resigned from the board in September.†She will fill the seat until the next board election in 2018.

NTCC winter commencement Dec. 9
Northeast Texas Community College will host its winter commencement ceremony Friday, Dec. 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. Graduates should plan to arrive no later than†6:30 p.m. in the Student Union Building. Free graduations portraits will be taken in the SUB beginning at 6 p.m.

Senator Ted Cruz staffer visits NTCC
Daniel Alders, East Texas Regional Director for Senator Ted Cruz, visited Northeast Texas Community College Wednesday. Dr. Johnson and Dr. McCullough met with him to discuss legislative issues affecting NTCC. He toured the campus and learned about the innovative programs and initiatives being implemented by our faculty and staff.
