Livestock help with fall maintenance on NTCC small farm

By: Rene? McCracken, NTCC Director of Agriculture

Sorghum, pumpkins and peas....oh my! Fall is not just a perfect time of year for me, but our goats at Northeast Texas Community College are enjoying the harvest as well. This is just one of the sustainable practices we love demonstrating at our NTCC Small Farm.† Working with nature and incorporating livestock into the garden is not only sustainable, but we cut out most of our labor and fuel/equipment costs.

NTCC wins national award for efforts in sustainability

Northeast Texas Community College recently learned that it was one of only nine community colleges nationwide to win†recognition†for its innovative agriculture programs by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).

As a recipient of the 2016 Green Genome Awards, NTCC was specifically honored for Program Design and Delivery in Sustainable Agriculture. The award comes with a prize of $10,000, which will be used to further sustainable agriculture efforts at NTCC.

"I am excited that our work over the past several years is getting national recognition.
