Skylar Fondren named Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar
Skylar Fondren, a Presidential Honors Scholar at Northeast Texas Community College, has been named a 2023 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
Skylar was named a Leader of Promise by Phi Theta Kappa in 2021 and has been very active in Honors Northeast, Phi Theta Kappa, and NTCC’s Journalism program.
NTCC Board holds regular March meeting
The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met for its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 28th.

Student conducts research in Psychology at NTCC
The mission of NTCC is "to provide personal, dynamic learning experiences empowering students to succeed." In keeping with this mission, faculty members frequently encourage students to expand their education beyond the classroom. A great example of this was found on March 28th, when student Alyssa Ochoa (pictured center in blue) spent several hours on a lovely spring afternoon collecting data on campus for her psychology research project.
Psi Beta inducts new members
On Thursday, March 23, 2023, 11 NTCC students were inducted into Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology for community colleges. The candlelight Induction was presided over by chapter officers Jocelyn Castorena, Tommy Arredondo, and Nataly Morales. The speaker for the evening, Margaret Dwiggins, a doctoral candidate in the Educational Psychology program at Texas A&M University-Commerce, presented her original research on Smartphones, Learning and FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).

Northeast Texas Community College hosted Eastfield College in a non-conference, single game on March 27th and came away with a 16-11 win. The Eagles bounced back offensively after splitting a weekend series with Panola where they only score five runs in two games.
Pickleball craze comes to NTCC
The NTCC Continuing Education department recently offered its very first pickleball course starting in late march. The course, taught by Marc Levesque, is a great way to stay fit, have fun and make new friends.
"Thank you NTCC continuing education for allowing me to teach and instruct the fastest growing sport in America “Pickleball” This amazing sport combines tennis, badminton and ping pong and is played with a paddle and heavier type whiffle ball," Levesque said.
A&M-Texarkana offers application fee waiver in April
Texas A&M University-Texarkana is offering a special admission application fee waiver for community college transfer students during the month of April. They are doing so in celebration of Community College Month. For more information, visit www.tamut.edu/apply.
Student art show scheduled from April 6th to May 2nd

The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will hold its annual student art show from Thursday, April 6th through Tuesday, May 2nd in the foyer gallery of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The exhibit will feature student artworks in design, drawing, ceramics, photography, and digital media. A reception will be held Wednesday, April 12th in the Whatley Center foyer at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come, meet our amazing students, and enjoy the exhibit.

Northeast Texas Community College Softball traveled to Corsicana, Texas on March 25th to take on Navarro College, coming away with one win and one loss. After losing in extra innings, 6-5 in game one, NTCC bounced back for a 4-1 victory in game two.
