First class completes fast track office tech certificate

The first class of students recently completed Northeast Texas Community College?s new fast track office skills certificate program that began this spring. This 21 classroom hour course is designed to help individuals cultivate the skills necessary to seek entry-level work in an office setting. Topics covered include Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, business etiquette and more.

Rain, rain, go away! Perhaps I will regret uttering that plea for the constant rainfall to cease when the dog days of August are upon us, but sometimes enough is really enough. It has not been a ?normal? year of precipitation for Northeast Texas at all. However, not too long ago in 2011, you may all remember that there was a long drought period that we all thought would never end. In fact the lasting effects can still be felt in the loss of our older trees in the landscape.

NTCC Shelby Automotive student lands racing internship

Raul Herrera is racing toward a bright future.

He just completed the Carol Shelby Automotive Technology Program at Northeast Texas Community College and has landed an internship as a motorsports mechanic with Eastex Motorsports, a professional racing team based in Mount Vernon.

Eastex Motorsports is a family-owned racing team led by driver Adam Poland, also a Shelby program graduate.

?This is our first opportunity to have an internship with a professional race team,? said Keith Fennimore, director of the program. ?It? pretty exciting for us.?

Poster Contest winners announced

Northeast Texas Community College hosted the 8th annual McGraw Hill Poster Contest April 24. Students presented posters highlighting original research on a wide range of topics. This event has become an annual test of creative scholarship in Northeast Texas, funded in part by the McGraw-Hill Corporation and judged by friends of NTCC and Honors Northeast. First place went to Kayleah Cumpian of Mount Pleasant. She presented research performed last summer at Texas A&M University-Commerce and won the top prize of $400.
