It may still be winter, but spring is in the air at Northeast Texas Community College as the Eagles baseball and softball teams gear up for the spring seasons. Baseball will kick off the pre-season with a home series against Cowley College Feb. 1-2. Softball opens the same weekend at home with games against Mountain View and Hill College, both on Feb. 2.

The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees voted to appoint Frankie King of Pittsburg to fill a vacant board seat last Tuesday night at the regular January meeting. King will serve in Place One, which became available after Jerry Webster retired from the board in December.

For their performance in two challenging honors seminars at Northeast Texas Community College in relation to their peers, two Presidential Scholars have recently won $100 checks.  

The Official Blues Brothers Revue is coming to the Whatley Center at Northeast Texas Community College on Monday, Feb. 11. There have been many imitators, but there is only one duo in North America sanctioned by Dan Aykroyd and Judith Belushi to don the official hat and sunglasses and walk in the legendary footsteps of Jake and Elwood Blues. 

Northeast Texas Community College recently received a donation of four Stop The Bleed kits from the Northeast Texas Regional Advisory Council (NETRAC). Each kit contains enough supplies to provide immediate first aid for up to 10 patients in the event of a mass casualty scenario. The kits will be placed in central locations around campus. In addition to the kits, NETRAC also provided training materials to be used in training NTCC Faculty and Staff on how to respond to bleeding patients.

The Northeast Texas Community College Continuing Education (CE) Department is offering a variety of courses beginning in late January and February. From career training to fun personal enrichment classes, the CE department has something for almost everyone. Below is a list of classes beginning soon:

Just an ordinary freshman year.  In 1956-1957.  Barbara Conrad from Northeast Texas becomes part of the first cohort of African-American undergraduates at the University of Texas.  A mellifluous soprano, she wins the star role in the spring opera as Dido.

Northeast Texas Community College will be closed Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. We will resume regular hours and the spring semester will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
