Christi Denney recently presented the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation with $2,000 to support the Nita DeWoody Memorial Scholarship fund. The money was raised through a 5K virtual event that was held last year and generous donations by local business sponsors.
The NTCC Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program has moved to a new location on campus. Faculty offices and classrooms are now located in the Instructional Annex building as follows:
Northeast Texas Community College will host its August 2022 commencement ceremony on Friday, Aug. 12 in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. Seating is limited, so only guests who have tickets will be admitted into the auditorium. Graduation will be streamed live on Youtube and Facebook for those who are unable to attend in person.
The Northeast Texas Community College Continuing Education Department hosted 101 children for the 2022 Kids Discovery College this summer. The two-week camp offered a variety of fun and educational classes for kids age 8-16 that ranged from theatre to drone piloting.
The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College is accepting new and returning students for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs should call to make an appointment for registration. While classes are offered in various convenient locations around the area, all registration will be held at the Community Resource Center (formerly MPISD Administration Building) at 105 N. Riddle Street in Mount Pleasant. Please call 903-434-8341 for an appointment. In-person, remote, and online self-paced options will be available. On Sunday, 7 August at 3 p.m., Samuel Anderson Pollan will feature works of Johann Sebastian Bach, and other classics of the literature for pipe organ at the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburg. The church is located at 109 College Street.
Since 2008, the honors program of NTCC has published a biannual newsletter. The recently released 2022 summer edition can be accessed by clicking here. The current newsletter provides a summary of student successes in the spring of 2022, including Aaliyah Avellaneda’s winning of one of the 100 Jack Kent Cooke scholarships in the nation.
Honors Northeast, the honors program of Northeast Texas Community College announces a call for poems and images that can accent or enliven our sense of the surroundings, people, the culture, and/or the history of Northeast Texas.
Adult poetry winners will take home $100 and $50 for first and second place. Full-time student poetry winners for first, second, third, and fourth places will receive $400, $300, $200 and $100 respectively. For images, first place will earn $70, second, $20, and third, $10. Anyone of any age is welcome to enter the contest. Any genre of poem, and at any length, can compete. A single contestant can submit a maximum of one poem and one image for consideration.
