The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met for its regular February meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 28th at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Ron Clinton, NTCC President, reported that the bill for proposed changes to the community college funding model was released this week. It is Texas House Bill 8, and more information will be made clear in weeks to come as the state legislature moves forward with its work.

Workampers hard at work on campus

Did you know that NTCC currently has 15 WorKampers from all over the country who live on campus and help out with important tasks that impact the entire college? NTCC’s unique WorKamping Program allows full-time RVers an opportunity to exchange work for rent at a small RV park located on the NTCC campus (near the rodeo arena). Retirees and disabled workers can share their considerable experience and talents to help with projects like landscaping, painting, farming, electrical, plumbing, and computer support.

athletic training month logo

Northeast Texas Community College would like to recognize all the Area Athletic Trainers who go above and beyond to take care of the athletes they serve. March is designated at National Athletic Training Month and this year the slogan is “There’s an AT for that”. Certified and/or Licensed Athletic Trainers are most notably seen working with Professional or Collegiate teams. We are fortunate here in Texas to also have many Athletic Trainers working with high schools and middle schools along with College and Professional teams.

volunteers

Six current NTCC Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) students recently had the opportunity to volunteer at a special needs Valentine’s dance at Coppergate Ranch. These students took extra time out of their weekend to help make the event memorable for attendees aged 9-67. One special guest, Grace, was a 17-year-old girl who got to celebrate her first birthday party at the dance.

film poster

In this the eleventh cinematic premiere of a story from the Texas past in as many years, Honors Northeast, and the NTCC Webb Society will present a largely forgotten story that deserves its share of legendary acclaim. The film follows the tale of Minnie Fisher Cunningham, the leader who led the state’s suffragettes to an upset victory.  It was a triumph unique in the larger regional story of the South. At a time when the Solid South offered the most vociferous resistance to suffrage, Texas endorsed the Nineteenth Amendment.

Kevin Schoneboom on the mound for the Eagles

Northeast Texas Community College Baseball hosted Paris Junior College for the first home conference games of the 2023 season and each team came away with a win in the series. NTCC won game one 7-2 before falling to Paris in game two 8-3. Game one’s victory was led by a great pitching performance by Kevin Schoneboom (Mansfield, Texas) who pitched a complete game giving up just two runs on five hits in seven innings on the mound. Schoneboom would strike out three PJC Dragons, and induced Paris into seven ground outs and 10 pop flies to keep the PJC offense grounded.
