In the evolving healthcare environment, organizations need individuals who can plan, direct, and coordinate medical and health services. Healthcare managers work in a variety of organizational settings including hospitals, physician clinics, long-term care facilities, home health organizations, and others. They may manage entire organizations or focus upon a specific clinical area or department. The importance of healthcare management is to ensure that facilities comply with healthcare laws, regulations, and technology.
Duties of the healthcare manager many include:
Work to improve efficiency and quality in delivering healthcare services
Develop departmental goals and objectives
Ensure that the facility in which they work is up to date on and compliant with new laws and regulations
Recruit, train, and supervise staff
Manage the finances of the facility, such as patient fees and billing
Create work schedules
Prepare and monitor budgets and spending to ensure departments operate within allocated funds
The curriculum for the AAS in Healthcare Management consists of both business and healthcare courses in online and hybrid formats. Internships are offered to students with local healthcare facilities on an application basis to help provide experiential learning. Upon completion of the program, students will earn an Associate of Applied Science in Healthcare Management. There is not formal application process for the program at this time, however, application to Northeast and placement testing via TSI is required before students may register for the program classes.
