As we celebrate Mardi Gras, Northeast Texas Community College’s (NTCC) Office of Student Development is embracing the spirit of giving with a Mardi Gras Sock Drive, running March 1-31.
Socks are among the most needed but least donated items in shelters and nursing homes. To help, NTCC aims to collect new, packaged socks for those in need across East Texas. Donations can be dropped off at SUB 101 throughout March.
The Active Minds chapter at Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) is hosting a Fundraiser Night on March 10 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Herschel’s Restaurant in Mount Pleasant. This event aims to raise awareness and support for mental health initiatives within the community.
Vanessajane Bayna, a Presidential Honors Scholar at Northeast Texas Community College has been named a 2025 Coca-Cola Academic Team Bronze Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver, and 50 Bronze Scholars with nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each scholar also receives a commemorative medallion.
Local author and craftsman M. J. Hayes has received the Phi Theta Kappa Friend of Texas Award. Each year, the Texas Region of Phi Theta Kappa recognizes individuals who are not members or advisors, but go above and beyond—demonstrating exemplary support for a Phi Theta Kappa chapter. Northeast Texas Community College’s chapter, Alpha Mu Chi, nominated Hayes for his assistance with the chapter’s 2023 and 2024 Honors in Action projects.
The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will host the Mount Pleasant Art Society Annual Membership Show March 8th-28th in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The competitive show features artwork from a variety of local artists. A reception will be held Saturday, March 8th from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the Whatley Center Foyer. The gallery is open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. However, it will be closed March 17th-21st for spring break.
Representatives from Northeast Texas Community College traveled to UT Tyler on Monday, March 3rd to attend a special Transfer Summit. NTCC is collaborating with UT Tyler to establish co-enrollment pathways that would allow students to take classes at both institutions simultaneously to work toward their educational goals.
The NTCC Film Club kicked off its Spring Film Series this Thursday. The series will include films by John Ford, the only director to win the Oscar for Best Direction four times (and who, along the way, made John Wayne a star). This week's feature was the western classic Stagecoach.
Film Club meets on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in Humanities 129. The following films will be shown at upcoming meetings:
