Three NTCC students named Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise

Northeast Texas Community College students Alicia Cantrell, Rachel Jordan and Cassidy Watkins are three of 207 Phi Theta Kappa members named a 2017 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program helps new Phi Theta Kappa members defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. Scholars are also encouraged to assume leadership roles by participating in Society programs and are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service, and leadership potential.

Honors Northeast students enjoy fall trip to Fort Worth

Honors students at Northeast Texas Community College recently traveled to Fort Worth for the program?s 21st semester day trip. The fall experience included stops at Starbucks, the Fort Worth Zoo, the Woodshed Smokehouse, the Fort Worth Cultural district museums, the Botanical Garden and Tarrant County College. These free trips, through the ongoing support of Drs. Jim and Paula Archer and other friends of NTCC, have become a standard feature of the honors program since 2008.

Cassidy Watkins named Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar

For the second year in a row, Texas Heritage National Bank has sponsored a full scholarship for a Northeast Texas Community College Presidential Scholar. Cassidy Watkins, of Daingerfield, has been named the 2017-2018 Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar.

The scholarship covers tuition, fees and books for Watkins? sophomore year at NTCC.

?This kind of privately funded, full academic scholarship gives dynamic students like Watkins time advantages, and a route to leverage greater awards,? Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director, said.

Chesney Davis named Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar

The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society has selected Chesney Davis to receive a $1,500 scholarship as the 2017 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar.

A mechanical engineering major, Davis is a Priefert Manufacturing engineering intern, NTCC Presidential Honors Scholar and the Texas Regional Vice President for Phi Theta Kappa.† In addition, Davis serves as a ?Supplemental Instruction?

Cypress Bank donates laptop computer to Honors Northeast student

For the 10th straight year,†Cypress Bank†has presented a MacBook computer for the use of Northeast Texas Community College honors students.†This year?s recipient is Jordan Whelchel.† He is a recent graduate of Daingerfield High School who already has become active in Honors film and Phi Theta Kappa activities at NTCC.†Whelchel plans to major in physics.

Cypress, the oldest Camp-County-based bank, has four locations in Mount Pleasant, Pittsburg, Lone Star and Commerce.

Brenda Godoy and Rachel Jordan receive Texas STAR Scholarships

Northeast Texas Community College students Brenda Godoy and Rachel Jordan received recognition as Texas STAR Scholars at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Regional Honors Institute held at Schreiner?s University July 21-23. They were two of eleven recipients from throughout the state of Texas.† Both serve as Vice-Presidents of Alpha Mu Chi, NTCC?s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Both are Presidential Scholars in Honors Northeast.
