The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College is pleased to host Flashback, Louisiana’s premier oldies show band, on Saturday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Their show, “At The Hop”, is a 1950's-60's" rock ‘n roll show that will bring back some wonderful memories of the songs that were popular when life in our country was so much simpler!
“The Whatley had a great return event in March with Dr. Ron Clinton’s piano concert and we are thrilled to be able to offer the community another great show in a safe, socially-distanced environment,” Carolyn Franks, Director of the Whatley Center, said.
You'll hear the hits of Bill Haley & The Comets, Elvis, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino and the wonderful harmonies of doowop groups like, Danny & The Juniors, The Drifters, and the Coasters. They promise it will be a “fun journey down memory lane and you're guaranteed to leave the show with a smile on your face!”
Flashback was founded by Bill Handorf, who has been performing his brand of doo wop and old school rock ‘n roll for over 50 years. In 1958, his early teens, Bill founded The Lancers, a popular “sock hop” band and performed throughout Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia. He has performed all over the world and has worked with acts like The Coasters and the Drifters.
Performing alongside Handorf is a true Louisiana music legend, Kent Gill. He began his career playing guitar and fiddle for the legendary Epic records recording artist David Houston, at venues across the US, Canada, England and Norway, including stops on the Grand Ole Opry.
Seating is extremely limited due to COVID-19 social distancing protocols. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children. They may be purchased by calling the Whatley Center box office at 903-434-8181.
