Did you know that Northeast Texas Community College offers opportunities for non-ag majors to get their hands in the dirt? The NTCC Ag Department offers three courses that students can take to satisfy core curriculum requirements for their degree, in addition to teaching important agricultural life skills.
Students in some majors can take Agronomy (AGRI 1307), the study of pastures and crops, Horticulture (AGRI 1315), the study of plants/gardening, or Animal Science (AGRI 1319), the study of farm animals to satisfy the core science requirement. In each case, non-ag majors are required to take only the lecture portion of the class. However, according to Rene? McCracken, NTCC Director of Agriculture, some students have requested to stay for the additional labs in order to get hands-on experience as well.
?If you are looking to enrich your college experience and perhaps learn how to produce your own food or create a beautiful lawn and garden ? consider adding one or more of our ag options to your degree plan this fall,? McCracken said.
Students majoring in Accounting, Art, Business Administration, Communications, Criminal Justice, General Studies, English, Music, Physical Education, Spanish, Teacher Education or Theater can satisfy their degree requirements with these three course options.
Interested in majoring in agriculture? NTCC ag offers a wide variety of classes to choose from. To learn more, contact McCracken at 903-434-8267 or†mccracken@ntcc.edu†or visit ntcc.edu/ag.
