Northeast Police Academy accepting applications

The Northeast Police Academy at Northeast Texas Community College will offer both day and evening academy options this fall. Both programs will be held in the state-of-the-art criminal justice facility on the main NTCC campus.


The 17-week daytime fast-track academy will begin on August 25. Courses meet from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. This intensive program is the fastest route to becoming a certified peace officer.

Students complete NTCC phlebotomy training

The Northeast Texas Community College department of Continuing Education and Corporate Training recently honored 12 students who completed the spring Phlebotomy program. The 200-hour certificate in Phlebotomy prepares students for a career drawing blood in various healthcare settings. NTCC Softball to host skills camp

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Softball staff will host a three-day skills camp June 16-18 at Eagle Field on the NTCC campus. The camp is open to players ages 5-14. It provides a way to learn and improve on all necessary skills in a structured and scientifically proven system. Games, challenges and prizes will be included to provide a fun and positive experience for all campers. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to noon daily.

NTCC to offer Medication Aide course

Northeast Texas Community College will host a Medication Aide Course this summer beginning Monday, June 9.†This course is 144 hours and provides instruction in preparation administration of designated medications by non-licensed nursing personnel employed in licensed health care agencies. It also teaches the responsibilities associated with such administration.There will be two orientation sessions.

Automotive program holds Carroll Shelby Memorial Cruise

The Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program at Northeast Texas Community College honored the memory of its benefactor last weekend with the 2014 Shelby Memorial Cruise. It was a beautiful day for a cruise to celebrate a life well lived. Car and bike enthusiasts gathered at NTCC and then†cruised to Leesburg (Shelby's hometown) and the Leesburg Cemetery. Pastor Dominic Crescimanno (Brother Dom) had some inspirational words about Mr. Shelby and life. The group then†cruised the back roads where Mr. Shelby grew up.

Ashley Laureano earns J. Travis Jackson GED Scholarship

Ashley Laureano (center)†of Mount Pleasant, was recently†presented with the J. Travis Jackson†GED†Scholarship during the†2014†GED graduation ceremony hosted by the Northeast Texas Community College Adult Education Department.†This $500 award is given by the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club in memory of Jackson, who was a long time adult educator in Titus County.†Making the presentation is Malik Latif (left), President of the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club and Carolyn Pope, GED Instructor.

SGA honors outstanding student organizations

The Northeast Texas Community College Student Government Association (SGA) recently recognized two student organizations on campus. The Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Mu Chi chapter was awarded Outstanding Student Organization for the 2013-2014 school year. To be eligible for this award an organization must exhibit how it has contributed to the college, community, and the development of its members.
