The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met for its regular September meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 28 in the Humanities Community Room.
Kaymon Farmer, NTCC’s newly-hired Director of Student Development and Inclusion, introduced the current officers of the Student Government Association (SGA) and gave an update on their activities. So far this fall, SGA has hosted a silent disco, Backyard Bash, a foam party and a variety of activities for multicultural week. Members in attendance included: Maxime Risner, Brian Ramirez, Jordan Chapin, Paisley McGee, Jesse Parchman and Ruben Guerrero.
Dr. Josh Stewart, Vice President for Student and Outreach Services, presented an enrollment report. Compared to Fall 2020, the student headcount is up 2.5 percent. Semester credit hours are up 3.5 percent and contact hours are up 4.7 percent. He also reported that dual credit enrollments continue to grow. President, Dr. Ron Clinton, presented the required annual Report on Texas Education Code, Section 51.253(c).
Ron Luellen, Director of the Carroll Shelby Automotive Program, gave an update on his program. He reported that numbers are strong in the Shelby Program and it continues to attract students both locally and from outside the region. Thanks to partnerships through Shelby American, Gateway Broncos, local organizations and others, students are expanding their skills through internships around the country.
“Our students are not only getting valuable experience through these internships, but they are also receiving full-time job opportunities as a result,” Luellen said.
In action items, the Board nominated candidates for the Morris and Titus County Appraisal District Boards of Directors. Also approved, was the formation of a new standing committee called the College Council. The group, which will meet quarterly or as determined by the president, will serve to enhance communication and provide diverse perspectives from all college departmental areas.
The Board also approved the purchase of four HVAC replacement units as well as a major technology upgrade for the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. A 2021-2022 budget amendment was also approved before adjourning. There was no executive session.
