Sigma Kappa Delta, Phi Theta Kappa induct new members

Two Northeast Texas Community College Honor Societies gathered in the Community Room on Wednesday, April 24th to induct new members. Sigma Kappa Delta inducted 15 members and Phi Theta Kappa inducted 67. Click here to view/download event photos. 

Jennifer Sparks, faculty advisor, led the Sigma Kappa Delta portion of the induction. Sigma Kappa Delta is an English honor society with more than 400 chapters across the country. In order to qualify for an invitation for Sigma Kappa Delta, students must maintain a high GPA and achieve excellent grades in their English courses. Monserrat Rivero Sanchez, Division II International Vice President for Phi Theta Kappa and outgoing NTCC chapter officer, led the Phi Theta Kappa induction ceremony. Alpha Mu Chi is NTCC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Founded over 100 years ago, Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest and largest honor society for two year colleges. The international organization has almost 1,300 chapters in the United States and 10 other nations around the world.  PTK has four Hallmarks: Leadership (give opportunities for leadership experience and character development); Scholarship (recognize those who excel academically and strive to reach a higher level of learning); Fellowship (gather a community of like-minded individuals who share ideas and ideas); and Service (emphasize service to others, both on college campuses and in their communities). After the induction ceremony, Phi Theta Kappa also installed new officers. A celebratory reception followed the event.
