Twelve students from NTCC competed at the Second Annual Red River Honors Symposium, hosted by Texas A&M University-Texarkana on Friday May 3. Students from colleges throughout the Red River area, including northeast Texas and into Oklahoma, presented posters showcasing their research from the past year. Students competed in five categories: Social Sciences, Humanities, Health Sciences, STEM, and Service Projects. Six NTCC students won awards and cash prizes.
First place winners include Skylar Hodson, for “The Third Coast: Texas’ Rise and Fall in the Film Industry” (Humanities), Lilliana Torreblanca, for “Safety Upgrade Urgently Needed at Northeast Texas Community College: Reasons Why We Need a Crosswalk” (Service), and Mary-Faith Wilson, for “Forgotten Melodies: How Music Affects Alzheimer’s” (Health Sciences).
Second place winners include George Burrows, for “Fish Leeches of Arkansas” (STEM), Curtis Johnson, for “Willingness to Vaccinate for Herd Immunity on Consideration of those who are High Responsibility versus Low Responsibility” (Social Sciences), and Luke McCraw for “Testing Grayscale’s Effect on College Students’ Smartphone Use” (Humanities).
Six community judges evaluated the student’s work. An awards luncheon followed the symposium.

Others from NTCC who attended include Dr. Anna Ingram, Dr. Karyn Skaar, Dr. Melissa Fulgham, and Melody Mott.
