Northeast Texas Community College painted the SUB pink on Wednesday, Oct. 30th to raise awareness of breast cancer. The event was held during the lunch activity period. In addition to everyone wearing pink, there were booths, games, and information about breast cancer prevention.
The NTCC Cosmetology program offered free pink hair tinsel and feather applications to participants. Representatives from Titus Regional Medical Center handed out information about breast cancer and shared the importance of early screening.
"We were very pleased with the turnout for our Paint the Sub Pink event. Breast cancer has impacted so many lives and it was nice to be able to honor those who have fought the disease and raise awareness about prevention," Ja'Quacy Minter, College Navigator and event organizer, said. "I could not have made this event happen without the love and support from Kim Irvin and Jessica Dorantes, as well as the countless number of people that helped make my vision come to life."
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed every October, is dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer, supporting those affected, and promoting early detection. In the U.S., about 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime, with over 297,000 new cases expected in women each year.
