The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College is pleased to host the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra on Saturday, April 13th at 7:30 p.m. Part of the Sounds of Northeast series, this is the last performance of the Whatley’s 2023-2024 season.
“If you haven’t watched them perform yet, you are in for a rare treat with the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra,” Carolyn Franks, Director of the Whatley Center said. “They have assembled a fantastic group of local musicians that can rival the talent of orchestras from much larger cities.”
Led by David Mills, the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra is a project of the heart a decade in the making. In 2009, a group of string instrument enthusiasts gathered to play string orchestra music. Over the years, it has rehearsed at Deanna Warren’s Music Connection, Northeast Texas Community College and various churches. After Covid-19 and the lack of live musical performances, the group became the Mount Pleasant Chamber Orchestra and is on a mission to provide an outlet for musicians to perform for our local community of music lovers.
The Concert is called All American. It is the third concert of our third season, and the orchestra's ninth concert in total. The orchestra is still made up of local volunteers. The premise of the program is famous pieces of classical music either about America or written by American composers.
