The Northeast Texas Community College Adult Education Department recently held a graduation ceremony to celebrate 30 students who completed the requirements for the GED (General Equivalency Diploma). Eight students were inducted into the National Adult Education Honor Society and the winner of the J. Travis Jackson Memorial Scholarship was also announced.
“It is always great to see the graduates and their families celebrating this important accomplishment. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, ages and circumstances – but they all share the drive and determination it took to put in the hard work to achieve their GED,” Fredia Thomas, Director of Adult Education, said. “We commend them and wish them the very best in their future endeavors.”
Students who were inducted into the National Adult Education Honor Society included (pictured from left): Lucille McClellan, Nancy Almazan, Tmyra Warren, Alex Strickland, Connor Wallace, Brenda Contreras, and Ana Diaz. Susan Futty was also inducted, but is not pictured. The mission of the National Adult Education Honor Society is to provide meaningful recognition to deserving adult education students, to improve student employment opportunities, to develop student ambassadors for local adult education programs and to create adult education awareness with school administrators and state legislators. Students were nominated for the honor by their instructors.
As part of the Adult Education Career Pathways Integrated, Education and Training (IET) initiative, Brittany Rudd was recognized as completing the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program, which is a collaborative effort between The NTCC Adult Education and Continuing Education Programs. Cesar Tinajero also completed the CNA program but is not pictured. The IET initiative is a Texas Workforce Commission Career Pathways educational model that combines occupational skills training, with adult education services, to increase the educational and career advancement of participants in a specific occupation.
Erin Conrad, President-Elect of the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club, and Michelle Morales, Adult Education Instructor, presented the J. Travis Jackson Memorial Scholarship to Tmyra Warren. This $500 award is given by the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club in memory of Jackson, who was a long time adult educator in Titus County.
