Those interested in learning more about cutting-edge issues in the scholarship of Northeast Texas are welcome to a free Lunch & Learn at the Mount Pleasant Library, Thursday, 10 March, 12:20-1:20 PM. The series of presentations will occur in the library’s community room, with free pizza, salad, drinks, and dessert to all who RSVP with Dr. Andrew Yox at ayox@ntcc.edu by 10AM on the 10th.

The NTCC scholars who will present are returning from having presented their topics already at the University of Texas at Austin for the meeting of the state Webb Society, held in conjunction with the Texas State Historical Association, 25 February. The presenters and topics include: Skylar Fondren who will build the case that Northeast Texas is becoming a “News Desert;” Evan Sears who will present a new interpretation of Carroll Shelby, the great Camp County racer, and car developer, Maiko Estrada on the significance of the Texas TV physician on the 1980s, “Dr. Red Duke,” Jordan Chapin on Legendary Housewives of Northeast Texas in the modern era, and Raul Leija who will compare the effects of the 1918 Spanish Flu and 2020 COVID on the city of Dallas.
Guests are welcome to ask questions and participate in any ensuing discussion at the conclusion of each presentation. Anyone with questions about the event are welcome to write Dr. Yox using the email above.
