The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department is pleased to announce that one of its graduates, Diedra Long Camp, will present the February art exhibit in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.

Camp is a watercolor and mixed media artist with a passion for telling a story and connecting to people. She was introduced to the healing qualities of art while caring for her late husband in his battle with cancer. When he passed in 2009, art became a source of healing and a past time while raising her (then) eight-year-old son, Cade.

In 2016, she began pursuing her passion for art as a career after retiring from a 22-year career in real estate. She is a certified facilitator for Art4Healing, a non-profit group that guides participants to use “color to express what words cannot” in military reintegration, Hospice and hospital settings, as well as stress relief for homeless shelters, families and businesses.

Currently, she is the artist for the Great Texas Balloon Race in Longview, Texas as well as a contributing artist and past instructor for the Longview Museum of Fine Arts. Her son, Cade is now a student at Texas A&M University, and she resides, creates, and teaches art from her home studio in Longview, Texas with her Goldendoodle, Drake.

“The purpose of my art is the creating of it. I am drawn in by moments in other people’s lives, expressions, and in the landscape that surrounds the places I travel and the people I observe. Everyday objects bursting with color, texture and iridescence are among my favorite still life muses. Various mediums are my playground.”

The exhibit will run from Friday, February 4th through Wednesday, February 23rd.  A reception will be held on Wednesday, February 9th, at 12:30 p.m. in Whatley foyer.
