The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently announced it received a $470,000 grant from Greater Texas Foundation to support the NTCC’s unique Work4College Program. The three-year grant will be used to support scholarships and personnel.
“We were very excited to hear we received this grant. The Work4College is privately funded, so we rely on gifts from individuals and private foundations, like Greater Texas Foundation, to keep it up and running,” Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Executive Vice President for Advancement, said.
In its seventh year of operation at NTCC, Work4College is a scholarship program designed to give students the opportunity to work during summer to earn money for college. While doing meaningful work on campus and learning important life skills, students are able to earn a paycheck and save for future classes at NTCC. A total of 79 students are participating in the program this summer.
Work4College is the only program of its kind, and Greater Texas Foundation would like to see other institutions implement similar opportunities for students.
“Part of our obligation for this grant involves developing best practices and advising other colleges and universities who are interested in starting something like our Work4College concept. It is something we are passionate about and we look forward to sharing the knowledge gained from our first several years,” McCullough said.
Greater Texas Foundation, headquartered in Bryan, supports initiatives that increase rates of postsecondary enrollment and completion for all Texas students, with a particular focus on students who may encounter barriers to postsecondary success.
