The Northeast Texas Community College Student Government Association recently presented its annual awards to student organizations that went above and beyond during the 2018-2019 academic year. They presented the Outstanding Student Organization Award to the NTCC Social Work Club and the Student Activities Attendance Award to the Cosmetology Club. The Outstanding Student Organization Award goes to the student club that demonstrated the biggest impact on the campus community during the 2018-2019 academic year. The Social Work Club will receive $300 to support club activities for earning the honor. Throughout the year they completed an extensive number of service hours and implemented the new NTCC Eagle Pantry, which provides food for college students in need. Additionally, the Social Work Club hosted One Night in a Cardboard Box, a homelessness awareness event that encouraged students to experience a night as a homeless person would. These are just a few examples of their contributions.
“The Social Work Club put in a tremendous amount of time and effort toward educating and serving our student body this year. It was our pleasure to present them with the Outstanding Student Organization Award,” Rico Willis, NTCC Director of Student Activities and Multicultural Affairs, said.
The Cosmetology Club received the Student Activities Attendance Award for having the most students participate in activities throughout the year. They received $200 for the honor.
“I love that you can always count on our cosmetology program to show up and participate in all of the events we offer on campus. They are really taking full advantage of their NTCC experience and we applaud that,” Willis said.
