Alpha Mu Chi, Northeast Texas Community College’s chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, was pleased to be able to donate $500 to Hospitality House. Hospitality House is the only long-term residential facility in the state of Texas and one of the very few in the nation that specializes in individuals dealing with mental health concerns. A representative of the facility, as well as a few residents, came to receive the check on December 10. Chapter officers and a few students and administrators were present to help celebrate the donation, a heartwarming experience for all concerned. The goal was to help residents experience a joyful Christmas as well as have additional needs met.
The $500 was raised through the sale of a 2020 calendar featuring entirely original artwork from the “Outside the Lines” art show held October 28-Nov 1 at the Whatley Performance Center. The artwork conveys some aspect of mental health, ranging from anxiety and depression to schizophrenia and PTSD, as well as the search for calm and peace.
Every year the PTK chapter selects a project to focus on that benefits the chapter, college, and community. Mental health was the focus this year. The chapter is thankful to everyone who bought the calendar, or attended the art show to help make this generous donation possible!
