Eagles end season in championship heartbreaker against San Jacinto

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Baseball team just missed out a trip to the JUCO World Series Wednesday after a heartbreaking 8-7 loss against San Jacinto College in the Region 14 championship game.

After going scoreless in the first inning, both teams? strong offenses got fired up in the second. San Jac scored two and NTCC answered with a three-run homer by Matt Scheurich to take the lead. San Jac managed to tie things up in the third and take a brief lead in the top of the fourth as they added one more. The Eagles responded with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a homer by Taylor Barber, bringing the score to 6-4 going into the fifth.

San Jac got single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie things up. Both teams went scoreless in the seventh and San Jac came back to score two more in the top of the eighth, leaving NTCC with a two-run deficit to overcome. The Eagles defense held San Jac in the top of the ninth. Scheurich walked in the bottom of the ninth and went on to score thanks to singles by Andrew Skivington and Thomas. The winning runner was left on base as the game ended on pop out to first base with a final score of 8-7.

Both NTCC and San Jac had 11 hits in the game. Ryan Dudley, Skivington and Chase Talbot all had multiple hits for the Eagles. Matt Kortendick took the loss for NTCC. He lasted three innings, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out one and walking one.
