The Division of Social Sciences is pleased to announce Bryce Kellan Crow, of Mount Vernon, Megan Elizabeth Blackwell, of Hughes Springs, and Fernando Zacariaz Garcia, of Charlotte, NC as the 2019-2020 Outstanding Students in Government.
When learning that he had been named an Outstanding Student in Government, Bryce Crow, had this to say: “I am from Mount Vernon, Texas and graduated Mount Vernon High School in 2018. In high school I was a 3 sport athlete competing in baseball, football, and track. I broke the school record in stolen bases in 2017 and came back my senior year in 2018 and broke my own record. I earned a scholarship from NTCC in the summer of 2017 to play baseball at the school. I committed and that is how my journey started with NTCC. My mom Sarah McSwain went to nursing school at NTCC and set forth the path of how hard work and dedication can get you anywhere you want to go. In the fall I plan to attend Midwestern State University to earn my Bachelors of Science in Radiologic Technology then enroll into a nuclear medicine school to earn my specialty in that field of medicine. I want to use my degree to work in a hospital to help people and better the field of medicine with my skills and genuine character that I get from my mom.
Mr. Allen is not only a great teacher but an outstanding man who served our country and has taught me that hard work and respect go a long way no matter where you are at. In Mr. Allen’s class I enjoyed the humble stories of his youth and his time serving our country. Mr. Allen taught me that history is more than just dates and times, it’s about learning the foundation that built America into the best country in the world.
I’m honored to be selected as an outstanding student in the Social Sciences Division, it goes to show that hard work and going the extra mile pays off in anything you do. Taking government classes has opened my eyes to how politics and our government functions as a whole. It also has shown me that hard working people in America are essential for us to keep this nation prospering.”
Full and associate faculty who teach government are Rex Allen, Bryan Francis, Ned Muse, William Ramsay, Pat Smith, Sarah Spikeston, and Tyler Young.
