† † † Beth Thompson loved Northeast Texas Community College. Her husband, with the help of family and friends, plans to keep her legacy alive at the institution through a scholarship in her memory. The Margaret Beth Reudelhuber Thompson Memorial Scholarship for Women in Accounting and Business was recently established with the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation.
† † † Beth Thompson served†as Vice President for Administrative Services at NTCC since 2006. She passed away March 8, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. The family will host a memorial service at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m.†Those who knew Beth†are invited to attend this celebration of her life.†
† † † ?NTCC was an important part of Beth?s life and I think it?s only fitting to establish a scholarship in her memory and to hold her memorial service on campus. She kept on working up until just a few weeks before her death ? not because she had to, but because she genuinely loved it,? Dr. John Thompson, her husband, who also works part time at NTCC, said.
† † † Beth and John moved to Mount Pleasant in 2004 after many years of climbing the corporate ladder in Dallas. The couple purchased a poultry farm outside of town and embarked on a major lifestyle change as they transitioned from business professionals to rural farmers.
† † † ?I?ll never quite understand what possessed us to move to Mount Pleasant and buy a chicken farm, but it made sense at the time and Mount Pleasant became home to us,? John said.
† † † In 2006, Beth realized she wasn?t quite ready to give up her career, and she accepted the position of Vice President for Administrative Services at NTCC.
† † † ?Beth?s contributions to the college were tremendous. Her financial leadership helped us successfully navigate through some historically lean times in higher education. She is greatly missed in a professional capacity, but even more so as a treasured friend,? Dr. Brad Johnson, NTCC President, said.
† † † The Thompsons knew they wouldn?t grow chickens forever and they were able to sell the farm a couple of years ago and built their retirement home on Lake Bob Sandlin.†In addition to her work at NTCC, Beth was also dedicated to her community. She was an active member of Tennison United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, and Mount Pleasant Rotary International. She sang in her church choir and served as president of both the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary.
