Night police academy offered in New Boston

Northeast Texas Community College is hosting an evening Police Academy (Basic Peace Officer Training) beginning October 3 at the Elementary School building in New Boston. The training program is 34 weeks and meets from 5:30-10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and every second and fourth Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The cost is $1,556 plus books and uniforms. NTCC offers affordable payment plans and this program qualifies for limited grant assistance for eligible students.

The Northeast Police Academy is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) approved police academy. The academy is taught by experienced individuals who recognize the importance of quality instruction. The 643-hours hours of instruction follow the TCOLE Basic Peace Officer curriculum, which includes topics such as penal code, arrest, search, and seizure, report writing, and Spanish. Upon successful completion of the Academy cadets are eligible to sit for the TCOLE Basic Peace Officer Certificate.

In order to be considered for Northeast Police Academy, a candidate must be at least 21 years of age, be a high school graduate or GED recipient, not have been convicted of a Class A or B misdemeanor or above within the past 10 years and have no felony convictions. Veterans and college graduates over the age of 18, but†under the age of 21, may be admitted if they meet certain criteria.

Prior to enrolling, candidates must submit all application documentation, complete a criminal history background check and other additional screen requirements as needed.
