The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College will kick off its 25th anniversary season October 11 with a special presentation by Capitol Steps. They are sure to brighten up the final push to election day with their witty, hilarious political satire.

The Capitol Steps, put together by a group of former Capitol Hill staffers, puts the MOCK in democracy as they find humor in all aspects of American politics. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and all tickets are $30.

?We hosted Capitol Steps several years ago and we had many requests to bring them back. I can?t think of a better time to host a political satire show than right now as the Presidential race heats up,? Carolyn Franks, Director of the Whatley Center, said.

The group was born in December, 1981 when some staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. Tthey decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and they created song parodies & skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor.

In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ("Don't quit your day job!"), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.

Since they began, the Capitol Steps have recorded over 30 albums, including their latest,†What to Expect When You're Electing. They've been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard twice a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their†Politics Takes a Holiday†radio specials.

Tickets are available by calling the Whatley Center Box Office at 903-434-8181. To learn more about this and other upcoming Whatley Center performances visit†www.ntcc.edu/whatley.
