The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Men?s Eagles Soccer team ended their undefeated streak this†past†week with a†heartbreaking 1-0 loss to San-Jacinto College. Even with the tough loss to the defending national champions, the Eagles still find themselves ranked in the top 10 at number seven†in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) coaches poll this week.
The game against San Jacinto ended in a 0-0 tie in regulation pushing the game into overtime. Ninety-seven minutes in San Jacinto scored the first and last goal of the game, defeating the Eagles 1-0.† The game originally scheduled to be played at the NTCC soccer field had to be moved to Mount Pleasant High School Field due to the rains that came through the day before.
In earlier action, the Eagles defeated NJCAA Division III, #2 ranked Richland College by a score of 2-1. Richland College jumped out to a 1-0 in the 27th†minute of action. This was followed up by the Eagles? Sergio Cavazos, who scored six minutes later knotting the game at 1-1.† Yannick Koffi, with an assist by Gabriel Cavalcante, added what proved to be the game winning goal a few minutes later.† However, Richland gave one final push with five shots on goal in the waning moments of the game.† All of which were successfully defended by Eagles? goal keeper, Salvador Valencia, giving the Eagles a 2-1 victory.
The Men next face Tyler Junior College at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 in Tyler before traveling to Hillsboro for a 4:00 p.m. game against Hill College on Tuesday, Sept. 23. The team will be back home for their game against Paris Junior College on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 4:00 p.m.
