Eagles Softball sweeps season opener

The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Eagles Softball team swept the Weatherford College Lady Cougars in their season-opening doubleheader Friday.

The Eagles were up 3-1 at the top of the second inning, but gave away five runs before the inning was finished. Sophomore Kelsey Moulder broke the Cougar?s stride with a home run in the third inning, with the Eagles gaining a four-run lead by the top of the 5th inning.

Sophomore Jennifer Miller drove three more runners home and the Eagles finished the first game with 13-6 over Weatherford.

In game two, Miller drove Moulder home early in the second inning, scoring the first run of the game. Weatherford came back and scored four runs by the beginning of the fourth inning. Miller broke Weatherford?s streak with the second homer of the day, driving Moulder and Sophmore Alizabeth Autrey home to tie the score 4-4. Sophomore Brianna Williams stepped up to the plate and hit another home run, pulling the Eagles into the lead before freshman Taylor Van Kirk drove sophomore Emilee Burkhardt home for a two-run lead. The Eagles finished strong with a final score of 6-4 after seven innings of play.

Head Softball Coach Jessica Keith was pleased with the outcome of the season opener,†"It was a good way to start the season out, we hit the ball really well and they played really hard." Keith said.
