The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Rodeo Team competed in the first event of the spring season last week at Trinity Valley Community College. The NTCC men's team finished sixth place overall and the women's team came in fourth.
Currently, the NTCC men are in fourth place in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Southern Region and the women's team is in third place overall.
Dustin Jackson placed fourth in the men's all-around with 80 points total for his performance in Saddle Bronc (seventh place), Bareback (seventh place) and Steer Wrestling (sixth place). Sadie Johnson led the women's team by winning Goat Tying with a time of 15.1.
"I am pretty pleased with where we are right now. We have several athletes who are consistently placing high in their events. We are certainly happy for big wins like Sadie got in Goat Tying last week, but anything in the top 10 really helps the team's point total," C.J. Mohl, NTCC head rodeo coach, said.
In men's action Wacey Hathcock finished second in Saddle Bronc and Slatyr Hunnicutt took fifth place. Jackson Massey won third in the Tie Down Roping and Garrett Burt came in eighth. Kolby Kennedy finished eighth in Team Roping Header.
In addition to Johnson's win in Goat Tying, Rachel Henderson placed seventh in Breakaway Roping.
NTCC rodeo will be back in action at Teas A&M-Kingsville March 1-3. For more information about NTCC rodeo, visit www.ntcceagles.com.
